I recently celebrated my birthday and seeing that it was a milestone birthday I thought I’d share some lessons learnt in life. Nothing overly profound or ground-breaking, just things I’ve come to know in my 30 years of existence on this earth.

  1. Always put God first because you can always depend on God no matter what.
  2. A good laughing session cures a lot.
  3. Spend more time with the people who make you feel good and less with those who don’t.
  4. Don’t worry so much about what people think.
  5. You’re never too old for a Disney movie.
  6. Try not to dwell on the past.
  7. Road trips are good for the soul.
  8. Buy 30 Seconds!
  9. Spend as much time as possible with your spouse and dog. These are the two who love you at your best and worst.
  10. Invest in a cellphone with voice-guided-navigation!
  11. Never trust fancy business cards.
  12. Every once in a while go out and dance your butt off, not giving a crap who’s watching and what they think.
  13. Always trust your instincts.
  14. Never doubt or underestimate yourself.
  15. Always make an effort with your appearance – your self-esteem will thank you for it.
  16. Nothing lasts forever.
  17. Hope for the best but don’t have specific expectations.
  18. Take each day as it comes. One at a time.
  19. Your siblings are the best friends you’ll ever have.
  20. Think carefully about what you want to do with your life. Start this thought process while you’re in high school.
  21. You’re stronger than you think. Don’t be so afraid to do it on your own.
  22. Nature is the best medicine for reflection and restoration.
  23. A good haircut has the power to change your outlook on life!
  24. Mother and daughter days are essential for both parties.
  25. Be yourself. Anyone who has a problem with that, is not worth your time.
  26. Don’t sell yourself short by comparing yourself to others.
  27. Don’t be afraid to take risks. Overcoming one’s fears is liberating!
  28. Always remember to return favours. That way you know you’ll always have someone to count on when you’re in a pickle. Plus, it’s good manners!
  29. A little courtesy goes a very long way.
  30. Don’t allow anyone to be reckless with your heart or play with your emotions. Life is too short for that. Move on.
