I started blogging on the 16th May 2014 and recently reached 100 followers. I would never have thought that even 10 people would sign up to receive notifications of my posts, let alone 100. So naturally I thought it was time for reflection.
When I decided to start my blog, it was because I noticed that most blogs, especially the popular ones, looked like a direct copy from the fashion runways. The girls were skinny and look posts were Photoshopped to the point of unreal “flawless” skin and bodies. I thought what the point of this was because we see this unnatural beauty daily in the media everyday already and is this not exactly what we’re trying to move away from and discourage. Hence, I started my blog with the specific goal in mind of showing me exactly as I am and hence the name – I Rock What I Got. I’ve got curves, I don’t have a perfect skin, neither do I have a fancy job and piles of cash for high-end fashion and beauty products. But I definitely did not let that deter me from starting this blog. I have never used Photoshop (and don’t intend to either) and I’ve only recently been given a DSLR camera by husband as a gift. I’ve been using my normal little old digital camera and phone to take my blog pictures and even though they’re not as five star, I think they look just fine. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with using Photoshop, it was obviously created for a reason, so hey whatever floats your boat!
Blogging is a hobby for me. I use it to escape the grind of daily life. It’s fun, teaches you a lot about yourself and even boosts your confidence at times. I’ve learnt so much about beauty, skincare, fashion and lifestyle tips through other bloggers. For example, I was clueless on how to do brows but since I’ve learnt how to do it right by reading and watching other bloggers’ tutorials I now find it fun and even look forward to doing it! I’ve also learnt and am still learning more each day on what looks suit me best. I’ve grown into my signature style and am not afraid to embrace and show it off. That’s the beauty of blogging – it’s a constant learning and evolving process.
The amount of support and encouragement I’ve received from other bloggers has been unbelievable. Who would’ve thought that someone halfway around the world would read something you posted and then comment on how much they loved it! It’s always nice to hear nice things. It shouldn’t be the exception, it should be the norm but unfortunately these days it is the exception. That’s why I always feel warm and fuzzy inside whenever I see a positive comment and I must add, I’ve been fortunate enough not to have received any negative comments thus far. Which like I said, shouldn’t happen anyway because if something is not for you just move on and find the thing that is for you. No need to leave nasty comments.
I thank each and everyone who has taken the time to read my posts and follow my blog. I look forward to furthering my blogging journey and continuing to “rock what I’ve got” and showing the world that it’s ok to be just you. We were not meant to look the same. You’re unique. Rock you.
