On the wintry Saturday morning of the 21st of February, I found myself at Blog Boot Camp hosted by the inspirational Katherine of Becoming You and Lana of Lanalou Style. I missed out on the introduction as I arrived late due to a wardrobe malfunction which I’ll definitely be doing a post on about the lessons learnt from that incident!

The Blog Boot Camp workshop was aimed at those wanting to learn more about blogging, whether you’re a beginner blogging as a hobby or for your small business. It specifically focused on WordPress blogs or websites. Katherine and Lana covered topics such as:

  • Creating your brand
  • How to use social media to promote your blog
  • Search engine optimisation (SEO) tips
  • How to effectively market your blog
  • How to work with public relations companies and brands
  • How to monetize your blog
  • WordPress plugins

What I particularly liked about the workshop is that Katherine and Lana gave personalized advice to the attendees. We were allowed to ask endless questions during the workshop, during the break and afterwards – all of which we made full use of! The hosts also gave scenarios of their personal experiences which I considered invaluable information as not a lot of bloggers would do that, as essentially for some, blogging is a business and they run their blogs as such.

The section that focused on WordPress plugins was another part of the workshop I loved as I always wondered how some bloggers created that unique look on their blogs and how their blogs just seemed to function so seamlessly. Now I know! We were given a fantastic resources list which contained all the essential and useful plugins, websites and software details we needed to optimize our blogs.

There were also delicious eats and drinks for us to devour during the break, some of which looked too beautiful to eat! So obviously I had to take pictures before the eating commenced. A few lucky attendees won some wonderful prizes from the sponsors. The cherry-on-top though, was no doubt the unbelievable goodie bag each of us received, which contained goodies from Revlon, Dermalogica, Rain, Piz Buin, Oh Lief, In Good Company, Ceramic Factory, Semantics, Sorbet, Poetry, Old Khaki, Jean Kelly, Daily Dish, Cotton Candi and Anthea K Photography. Needless to say, I’m excited to start trying out the great products. Details to follow in upcoming posts!

I would fully recommend this workshop to anyone who wants to take blogging a step further. For a newbie blogger like me, who’s still somewhat in the dark about the ins and outs of blogging, it proved to be extremely valuable. I cannot wait to start putting everything I learnt into practice and look forward to what my blogging journey holds for me.
