Hubby and I have been in need of professional massages for a while now. In today’s rushed, stressful life it’s so easy to feel rundown and it takes a heavy toll on ones body. So when I saw @miss2beesy Taryn Bester’s tweet about a fabulous spring special at Mangwanani African Spa, I jumped at the chance to make a booking.
The Spring Rejuvenation package for two includes a 60 minute North African head, neck and shoulder massage with pressure point therapy, a 30 minute Royal African foot or hand massage with warm rose petal water and a sugar scrub as well as a complimentary body butter. The special was only available at Mangwanani Boutique Spas, so we headed to the V and A Waterfront last week Wednesday to make use of this amazing offer. Traffic into Cape Town was crazy as usual so we arrived in a hurried frenzy, all the while hoping that we weren’t late for our appointments. But welcoming cappuccinos and colourful macarons were all we needed to put our minds at ease.
After enjoying our refreshments, we changed into our gowns and slippers and met the therapists in the foyer – where the massages are also done. Mangwanani is not your typical spa, hence the ‘african spa’ addition to the name. Our massages were done in a communal area but I was definitely not self-conscious as it still felt private. However, if like me, you’re used to the traditional lie-down massage experience then this way might take some getting used to. Though I must mention, the therapists work such magic with their hands that in puts you in total state of relaxation and nonchalance. The techniques used were also unlike any other I’ve come across at other spas I’ve visited and it definitely loosened up the knots and released the tension.
So if you’re in need of some R&R but also yearn for something different then Mangwanani is for you. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for great specials and packages at their various spas across South Africa and treat yourself because you deserve some pampering!

I love mangwanani spas. When in Durban, go to the one @ Sibiya. Lovely setting
Thanks for the heads-up, I’ll definitely give it a visit if I’m down there.
