The year 2016 has no doubt been a rollercoaster ride for me to say the least. But there were as many highs as there were lows and we all know by now that we’ve got to take the good with the bad. So I’ve decided to do a little round-up of my 2016 South Africa travel highlights as a way of reflecting on the year that’s about to come to an end.
Zip Lining in the Mountains
We kicked off the year with an action packed zip lining adventure in the Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve. I must admit when I saw the heights from which these zip lining ropes were suspended, I was scared out of my wits. The Cape Canopy Tour crew however did a very good job of putting my mind at ease and ensuring that I ended having an amazing experience!
Taking a Winter Break at Botlierskop Private Game Reserve
In winter this year we took a trip down the Garden Route to the stunning Botlierskop Private Game Reserve. What an icy cold getaway it was! We woke up every morning to what felt like minus 10 degrees outside but our luxury tented suite kept us warm and cosy with its air conditioner. The reserve is situated in a beautiful part of the Outeniqua mountains and is and all-rounder – 4 of the big 5 animals, spa treatments , the works.
An Impromptu Road Trip Through Four Towns
Spur of the moment road trips usually end up making the best memories. And that’s exactly what we decided to do one idle day in July this year. We started off in the picturesque Durbanville Wine Valley and ended up in the quaint little town of Wellington – discovering lots of hidden gems along the way!
Searching for the Daisies During Namaqualand Flower Season
Flower season is always a treat and this year we decided to experience it at the source – Namaqualand, Northern Cape. There wasn’t fields and fields of colour explosions but the flowers we did get to see were spectacular indeed. I’m all about taking the road less travelled and was very much in my element with this trip.
That is my 2016 South Africa travel highlights in a nutshell. We are fortunate to live in a beautiful country and I intend on exploring every inch of it’s natural beauty. Here’s to a 2017 of local South African travel and lifestyle experiences!
I just discovered your blog a few weeks ago and am really loving this roundup of your 2016 travel highlights! All these places look and sound amazing and the zip lining looks like so much fun! :D Looking forward to seeing what’s in store for you for 2017!
