Ah the Western Cape summer… When Capetonians, visitors and foreigners alike loose their minds in the beautiful Mother City because there’s simply to much fun activities to choose from! There’s no doubting that the Western Cape is exquisite in its natural beauty so the best things to in summer time here, is to be outdoors. That’s why I’ve rounded up 3 fun things to do in Western Cape summer season.
Galileo Open Air Cinema
The Galileo Open Air Cinema is the ultimate Cape Town summer activity. Screenings of your all time favourite movies in beautiful settings around the Western Cape. What’s particularly nice about this outdoor cinema is that everyone has a good view of the screen due to the seating available for purchase and of course the variety of refreshments on offer too!
Cape Town Open Streets
I absolutely love the vibrancy of the Cape Town city center but hate the traffic that comes along with it. Cue the ingenious idea of Open Streets Cape Town. During this street festival, sections of a popular street are cordoned off and pedestrians can roam freely without being worried about dodging cars. There’s entertainment and a variety of food on offer to suit all tastes and ages too. It’s a great way of getting to know the city while having a fun time.
Strawberry Picking and Markets in the Cape Winelands
If strawberry picking is not on your list of things to do in Western Cape summer season, you’re doing it wrong! You know it’s officially summer when the ripe juicy red strawberries make their appearance. Best of all is you don’t have to settle for the strawberries on the supermarket shelves, you can go out and pick your own! The Western Cape has many strawberry farms to choose from – the most popular and closest ones to Cape Town being, Polkadraai and Mooiberge. These strawberry farms are also within close proximity of popular farmers markets so make sure you pop into both for the full Winelands summer experience!
