Most places we visit were usually spotted on our way to somewhere else. We first saw Klein Joostenberg on our way to our massages at Camelot Spa Le Franschhoek. We immediately put it on our list of places to visit. Last week on another scorcher of a day in Cape Town, we decided it was the perfect day for a trip to the Cape Winelands. I’m always in awe of the Western Cape’s wine estates as they usually offer an array of activities that don’t just focus solely on wine tasting. Not to mention the exquisite scenery! Although I don’t think we were quite ready for all the options that awaited us at Klein Joostenberg.
Eat at Klein Joostenberg Bistro and Deli
I’m always keen to try out a new restaurant so naturally we headed straight to the Klein Joostenberg Bistro for breakfast. I’m still indulging in my obsession with french toast and honey – I mean just look at the decadence in the above photo. Hubby opted for the Frenchman’s breakfast which consists of a baguette, croissant, almond financier, ham, various cheeses and pate. They also have a deli next to the bistro which stocks a variety of products from gifts to organic produce. We swiftly cleaned our plates and took a walk around their beautiful grounds so see more!
Order a Picnic Basket and have Tastings at the Stellenbosch Brewing Company
Klein Joostenberg has a lush green lawn area overlooking the dam which provides the perfect setting for picnics. There’s also a play area for the kids and cute little chicks and ducks to keep them entertained. Picnic baskets, tastings and tours are done via the Stellenbosch Brewing Company. Although we didn’t have a picnic or do some tastings (for obvious preggie reasons) we did take some beautiful pregnancy photos!
Take a Walk Amongst the Flowers at Ludwig’s Roses and The Garden Village
I’m sure you’re all familiar with the popular Chart Farm in the southern suburbs of Cape Town but did you know there’s a Winelands branch too? Ludwig’s Roses Winelands is also situated on the Klein Joostenberg premises and stocks every variety of roses you can think of. They’ve also got some lovely rose products for purchase at their little store. The Garden Village is a quirky nursery also situated on Klein Joostenberg. If you’re looking for rare and exotic plants, this is the place to go to! They also have the most unusual garden furniture which is sure to make your home stand out from the rest of the street.
There’s so much more we didn’t get around to doing at Klein Joostenberg like checking out the market and Soul Crystals. The heat just got a bit too much and we decided to call it a day just after noon. Do visit their website to find out more about this incredible place.

The french bread and honey breakfast at Klein Joostenberg looks amazing and the breakfast your husband had sounds really exceptional too. So fun that you are able to find such interesting places to check out just while passing by them on the way to somewhere else.
If you head over there on a weekend then there are horse carriage rides which the smaller kids absolutely love!
