The Cape Winelands is a magical part of the Western Cape. But in autumn, the region becomes especially captivating; vineyards turn a beautiful shade of brown and golden leaves twirl as they fall from the trees. Now let’s pair that scenery with a picture-perfect sunset, a glass of Shiraz, 4-star accommodation to rest your head and you’ve got Andreas luxury accommodation in Wellington.

Andreas Wines Wellington

Andreas Wine Estate is almost concealed in the Bovlei Valley amongst the other Wellington wine estates – a true hidden gem! Parts of the property have been sold to its neighbours and Andreas Wines has 4.5 hectares of vineyards which produce their award-winning Shiraz. With the mid-year slump having already kicked in, an invitation to spend the night at Andreas Luxury Accommodation was just what the doctor ordered.

Welcome to Andreas Luxury Accommodation – Winelands hidden gem

Andreas Luxury Accommodation

We arrive at Andreas Wellington on an unusually warm autumn day and are heartily welcomed by guesthouse manager, Henry de Koker. Chatting to Henry, despite having just met him, is like catching up with an old friend. His friendly, down-to-earth nature instantly makes us feel at home. Andreas Luxury Accommodation is an 18th century Cape Dutch style house built in 1799. The house strikes the perfect balance between historic and modern design. We soak up the late afternoon sun on the veranda while enjoying a glass of Andreas Shiraz 2015.

Your home away from home…

Andreas Luxury Accommodation

A beautiful property is a deciding factor for me when it comes to choosing between accommodation options and Andreas does not disappoint. Their serene garden and relaxing pool area is calming to the weary mind. Cute squirrels play hide and seek in the shrubbery and with my glass of Andreas Shiraz in hand, I could easily be talked into staying an extra two nights at this gorgeous wine estate…

Andreas Luxury Accommodation

Andreas Luxury Accommodation delivers exactly what the name promises. Downstairs you’ll find two cosy lounge areas which can be enjoyed at your leisure, as well as a communal dining area where breakfast is served. The stairs lead you to another (more private) lounge area equipped with a coffee station and the four luxurious en-suite bedrooms. We stayed in the Mourvèdre room which was nothing short of amazing. Egyptian cotton bed linen, a freestanding bath and walk-in shower ensured that we blissfully melted away to dreamland.

The Andreas country house feels like a home away from home. Even though a communal breakfast is encouraged, you’re also welcome to sit outside on the porch while marvelling some more at the stunning garden. Being parents to a busy toddler, Andreas was the ideal romantic getaway for us but it’s also good for groups of up to 8 people who merely want to break away from the city. Whatever your reason for visiting, this Wellington gem will leave you both spellbound, restored and planning your return!

And then there’s the wine!andreas wines wellington

Andreas Shiraz 2015

Andreas Shiraz is the best of both worlds; an easy-drinking, smooth, full-bodied wine with distinctive peppery, spicy and berry flavours. The wine estate’s limited output ensures that they are able to exercise strict quality control measures and everything, including bottling, is done on the premises. It’s therefore easy to see why the Andreas Shiraz 2015 has been listed amongst the 12 best South African wines by Independent UK! When going on a Wellington wine tasting spree be sure to add them to your list but bear in mind that tastings, cellar tours and visits are by appointment only.
