Franschhoek has proved itself over and over again to be the culinary capital of Cape Town. The Franschhoek valley rarely disappoints when it comes to restaurants and this was once again confirmed at the launch of the Anthonij Rupert Wyne’s Terra del Capo winter menu. With the cold weather having already hit Cape Town with an icy bang, a selection of Italian dishes inspired by seasonal produce from the Cape Winelands region will surely warm you up this chilly winter.

A Taste of Italy

The standout dishes for me were the beautifully presented Smoked Salmon Trout in Gremolata crème fraiche, preserved lemon and watercress as well as the delicious sautéed Porcini mushrooms with garlic, thyme and Parmigiano Reggiano. One of the highlights of this year’s Terra del Capo winter menu are the estate raised Black Angus Beef and Truffles produced from the Altima Estate. You can experience a taste of these ingredients with the Angus Beef Tartare with Truffle Vinaigrette and Soft Quails Egg and the hearty Angus Beef Brodo with Salsiccia Meatballs – the ideal winter warmer.

Anthonij Rupert Wyne is the first wine estate in South Africa to both cultivate and produce black Perigord truffles. These remarkable truffles are grown at the Altima estate near Villiersdorp where the cool climate conditions are perfectly suited for the cultivation of these rare delicacies. You can also book an Altima Truffle Experience which includes a VIP tour, truffle hunting and truffle lunch.

Best Enjoyed…

The Protea, L’Ormarins, Cape of Good Hope, Anthonij Rupert and Terra del Capo wines are the perfect accompaniment to the Terra del Capo tapas style dishes. Menu items are priced from R55 to R95 and are all surprisingly filling! There are also various platter and pairing options on the menu which are great for group visits. TheTerra del Capo Antipasto Bar is open from Tuesday – Sunday and bookings are essential.
