It’s easy to fall in love with the little town of Greyton in the Overberg region of the Western Cape. For starters, the sheer amount of family-friendly things to do in Greyton is already enough to steer parents in that direction. Secondly, the traveling time from Cape Town to Greyton is a mere 2-hour drive and as parents of a toddler, we definitely know how important that is!

Despite all these advantages, when we booked our Greyton getaway we never imagined how the little town would steal our hearts with its warm hospitality and countryside charm. Now that we’ve moved to level one of the South African lockdown and leisure travel is allowed you might find yourself on an Overberg road trip, so here’s a list of family-friendly things to do in Greyton.

Greyton Saturday Morning Market

family-friendly things to do in Greyton

Held every Saturday morning from 10:00 – 12:00 in the main road opposite the NG church, the Greyton Saturday Morning Market is well-known for its local fresh produce and unique finds. You can expect everything from freshly baked milk tart, to distinctive artworks and cute succulents. There’s also live music to keep you entertained and browsing for quite a while. The market is open-air and the show goes on regardless of the weather so if you don’t trust the clouds, bring a jacket just in case!

The Vanilla Café

If you’re looking for child-friendly Greyton restaurants, then look no further than The Vanilla Café. Grab a seat in the outdoor dining area of their lush green garden overlooking the fenced pool. The kids will have loads of fun running through the garden and playing on the jungle gym and afterwards their tummies will be kept full thanks to the kiddies menu. The breakfast, lunch and drinks menu also contains enough favourites to keep mom and dad happy. Even though we didn’t have any, I’ve also heard that they make the yummiest milkshakes so do give it a try when you pop in!
