The mountains are my happy place. I can’t really explain it but being surrounded by mountain views just gives me a sense of calm, peace and restores my weary city soul. So when an invitation landed in my inbox for an overnight stay in the brand new Luxury Eco Cottages at Slanghoek Mountain Resort, I grabbed it with both hands and said yes! I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Platbos Log Cabins at Slanghoek Mountain Resort and knew that this offering would definitely be amazing especially because the new cottages each come with a wood-fired hot tub. You’ll also be very pleased to know that the new cottages are completely off-the-grid as they’re gas and solar powered so loadshedding will not affect you at all!

The five luxury mountain cottages have each been named after the pear cultivars grown on the farm – Celina, Packham, Rosemarie, Bon Chretien and Cheeky. Each cottage accommodates four people in two bedrooms (main bedroom with queen sized bed and second bedroom with twin beds) and has a spacious open-plan kitchen and living area.

The last time were visited the Slanghoek Valley was in 2018 for the Soetes en Sop Festival which in my opinion, is one of the best wine festivals in the Western Cape. I instantly fell in love with the Breedekloof Wine Valley and its down-to-earth nature and was seriously bummed when we couldn’t find any availability for Slanghoek Valley accommodation. That’s exactly what made this trip to Slanghoek Mountain Resort so much more special as we’d wanted to return to the area for quite a while.

Welcome to the Slanghoek Mountain Resort Luxury Eco Cottages

Slanghoek Mountain Resort

After a short one-hour drive to Slanghoek Mountain Resort from Cape Town, we arrived at our destination and was warmly greeted by Belize who handed over the keys to our cottage and gave us a little rundown of the resort. The drive up to the new Eco Cottages is a bit steep and we had to take it slow with our VW Golf but I’m sure SUV’s and even slightly bigger cars wouldn’t have an issue. The views of the Slanghoek Valley from the cottages are breathtaking and they’ve been perfectly placed to take full advantage of it! A walk through the luxury cottage instantly proved that this is not your average self-catering Rawsonville accommodation. The lounge and dining area is tastefully decorated and the fully equipped modern kitchen with its subway tiles, butchers block countertop and gas stove invites you to whip up something delicious and make yourself at home.

Obviously the one thing we were most excited about was the wood fired hot tub. So after throwing together a quick charcuterie platter, we poured ourselves a glass of Slanghoek Chenin Blanc while we waited for the hot tub to warm up. It took about an hour to be just the right temperature but after that the water stayed warm for hours! My boy and I continued to enjoy the hot tub while hubby briefly got out to start the braai fire and then promptly returned to watch the sunset with us. Stargazing is spectacular from the Slanghoek Mountain Resort Eco Cottages and if you’re lucky to stayover on a clear night, look at how the stars shine for you!

The folding stacking doors allowed us to bring the outdoors inside and we had our braai supper at the dining table while the coals were still burning. Afterwards we cosied up on the couch and just listened to the sound of nothing… Just in case you’re wondering, we were surprisingly not bothered by any pesky bugs! The sleep I had that night was one of the best I had in ages.

Another thing I really appreciated was the two bathrooms in the cottage, which ensured that the boys didn’t bother me with any ‘hurry up’ knocks at the door. The two bedrooms are spacious with more than enough packing space so your luggage doesn’t lay all over the floor and ruin the aesthetic. We’ll definitely be returning to these stunning cottages in summer.

But wait, there’s a lot more at Slanghoek Mountain Resort!

An all-round family destination, Slanghoek Mountain Resort offers you and the family camping, safari tents, log cabins, chalets, luxury eco units as well as wedding and function options. Guests can also look forward to putt-putt, swimming pools, a jungle gym for the kids, on-site restaurant and MTB trails. The resort is extremely popular so be sure to secure your booking well in advance!
